The computer and accessories that the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Baba Jamal donated to the opposition New Patriotic Party in the constituency may be of no use to the party after all.

The party may, therefore, ship the package to a school yet to be decided, a member of the party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko indicated on Joy FM/Multi TV’s news analysis programme Newsfile on Saturday.

Akwatia constituency located in the Denchembour District of the Eastern Region has been an election flashpoint for years. Until 2012, the seat had been held by the NPP.

To foster peace and unity in the area as the 2016 elections inch closer, Baba Jamal who is also the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, donated a computer, UPs, a printer and their accessories to the NPP office in Akwatia.

The MP had visited the NPP office to interact with the party's constituency executives and to find out how best the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and NPP can come together to develop Akwatia.

"We should all ensure that we work together for the truth. We expect peace and unity to reign in the 2016 general elections and not to repeat the kind of conflict and animosity that characterized previous elections in Akwatia," Baba Jamal emphasized.

Alhaji Baba Yakubu, NPP chairman for Akwatia, who received the donation was reported to have expressed delight at the gesture.

He was certain the items would go a long way to support the day-to-day secretarial needs of his party.

However, Gabby’s revelation on Newsfile appears to contradict the constituency chairman’s comments.

Gabby who is a former Executive Director of pro-NPP think-thank, Danquah Institute, also appeared surprised that the party accepted the donation.

“I have been reliably informed that the party is donating it to a school,” he stated.

The decision by the NPP to donate the items got a thumbs up from a co-panel member, Yaw Oppong, a law lecturer at the Central University College.

He warned parties against receiving items such as computer from their opponents under this technological age, suggesting it could be a Trojan horse.
