The Director-General of Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has praised the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) for its professionalism, strategic focus, and commitment to grassroots development.
The commendation came during an official visit by the RLFG leadership to the NSA headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, May 13.
The delegation, led by RLFG President Juliana Storey, aimed to strengthen ties with the NSA and provide updates on the Federation’s growth and future plans.
Storey highlighted the RLFG’s milestones, including youth outreach initiatives, international partnerships, and nationwide development programmes. She also reiterated the importance of distinguishing rugby league from rugby union—two separate codes with different governing bodies and rules.
"We are grateful for the warm reception from the National Sports Authority and the continued support of Mr. Ampofo Ankrah," Storey said.
"Our mission is to grow rugby league from the grassroots up, and with the NSA’s partnership, we are confident in our ability to build a sustainable and inclusive sporting future for Ghana."
In response, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah praised the RLFG’s achievements, particularly in transparency, financial reporting, and branding.
"The Rugby League Federation Ghana has demonstrated commendable professionalism and vision," he stated.
"Their dedication to grassroots development, transparent operations, and strategic partnerships is exactly what we need in Ghana’s sports landscape. The NSA stands ready to support RLFG as a model for other emerging sports federations."
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from both organisations, including Mr. Marshall Nortey, Technical Director of RLFG; Mr. Jafaru Awudu Mustapha, General Manager; Ms. Hilaria Wuaku, Communications Lead; Mr. James Odoi Wilson, Greater Accra Technical Director of NSA; and Mr. Hubert Leo Mensah, Acting Head of the NSA’s Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit.
The session concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation and further promote rugby league across the country.
