Organizers of the Occupy Julorbi House protest have served notice they will embark on a series of demonstrations in December if the current state of affairs does not change.
According to the Head of Programmes at Democracy Hub and a convener of Fix the Country, Benjamin Darko, government has a duty to make life better for citizens and anything short of that will be met with protest.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe, Mr. Darko said the demonstration will be held daily to press home their demands.
“We have to know that when it comes to the state, the biggest opposition should be we the people but basically what we have been doing for some time now is that we leave that position in the hands of political parties and we the people are laid back.
“Again, the government hasn’t respected Ghanaians for them to demand respect from us. We have given the government from now till December, what we know very well is that within December if they have created a country that we cannot live in, but have created restaurants and hotels for their sons and daughters and for foreigners to come and enjoy, then Detty December will be turned into detty demonstrations if we don’t see any thing changed.
"So within December we are going to organize protest after protest, every single day. It is not going to be just three days, we are going to organize it throughout the whole of December until we see things change."
Defending this decision, Mr. Darko explained that demonstration was a way for the people to vent out their displeasure with the government since the youth believe in democracy.
“If you don’t allow people to speak out and you try to suppress their anger within, when it explodes no one will be able to control it.
"What we are currently doing is controlled anger that is why we are going through the right process.
“If you don’t allow us to control this and you allow us to go outside the remits of the law, it might be dangerous for everyone and we have that hope that government will one day listen.
"We do not think that the solution lies within the military, we still believe that democracy is what will give us the solution that we need but then we the people have to be heard."
Meanwhile, government says it is yet to receive a petition from governance advocacy group, Democracy Hub on their concerns following a three-day protest in the capital.
Designated spokesperson, Hassan Tampuli insists the concerns of mismanagement of the economy, unemployment and a demand to end corruption are issues already being dealt with by government.
Speaking to JoyNews, the Deputy Minister for Transport said it will be advisable for the demonstrators to put their demands on paper.
“You cannot put something on nothing. We need to know exactly what we are responding to. At least there should be a certain position on paper that 'these are our grievances'.”
