Two people have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a three-storey building at Accra New Town.
This comes as rescue teams intensify efforts into the night to reach those still trapped beneath the debris.
The Accra Mayor, Michael Kpakpo Allotey confirmed the fatalities, while 14 people have so far been rescued from the rubble.
The incident occurred earlier today at an uncompleted three-storey structure within the premises of the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School, a site also used by Christian worshippers on Sundays.
The cause of the collapse remains unclear.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Fire Service, have deployed floodlights and equipment to sustain operations after dark.
Authorities say several people may still be trapped, with some victims heard calling for help from beneath the debris, heightening the urgency of the ongoing rescue effort.
Initial rescue attempts were carried out by residents and bystanders, who used bare hands and basic tools to pull victims from the rubble before emergency services arrived.
Rescue teams say operations will continue through the night as they race against time to save lives.
