Accra Great Olympics revived their ambitions of remaining in the top flight of the Premier league when they earned a 2-0 win over Kessben FC in their Week 29 clash on Wednesday at the El-Wak Stadium, Accra. It was a well deserved victory for the "Wonder club" of Ghana football in the season's penultimate clash that also boosted their chances of surviving the elite division. A goal in each half from Rahim Fuseini and James Abban was enough to land Olympics with needed maximum points to clinch their ninth win of the 29-week old premiership. With the result, Olympics must beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the final match of the season on May 12, and pray that New Edubiase falters against Liberty Professionals, or else they will join the Sekondi duo of Hasaacas and Eleven Wise into the second-tier of Ghana football. This time round it was an improved performance from Olympics, whose last victory was on March 31 against Real Tamale United at the same venue and it yielded the expected returns to the few supporters who braved the odds to watch the match. It was, however, Kessben who had the first chance at goal after eight minutes but Sampson Cudjoe shot feebly that the Olympics goalie easily parried wide after Zuga Yufa had put him through from a counter attack. Olympics quickly responded and offensive midfielder Romeo Agban should have shot them into the lead on 29 minutes after the Kessben goalie Alex Tetteh had spilled Abban's shot onto his path. With Tetteh struggling to return to his feet, Abban surprisingly blasted wide with the yawning net at his mercy to the annoyance of the sparse spectators. Defender Fuseini however broke the deadlock a minute from recess by heading home a Latif Mohammed's free-kick at the edge of the Kessben penalty area. Kessben had the better of the exchanges during the second half as burly striker Bismarck Idan terrorized the Olympics rear with his surging runs upfront with no support from his mates. Abban sealed victory for Olympics on 77 minutes from Latif's cross from the left flank to put a simmer of hope on the face of followers of the Wonder Club.Source: GNA
