The New Patriotic Party (NPP) vetting committee has thrown out a petition challenging the eligibility of Asuogyaman MP Kofi Osei Ameyaw to contest the NPP flagbearership race.
The petition claimed the MP and aspiring flagbearer had failed to pay the mandatory GH₵ 10,000.00 being cost of the flagbearership form and a filing fee of GH₵ 75,000.00
But the vetting committee has thrown out the petition.
Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah who has been following the beat reported the NPP is indebted to the flagbearer aspirant to the tune of GH₵ 100,000.
Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw was said to have loaned the amount to the party to organise the recently held National Delegates Congress to elect new party leaders.
The party has therefore decided to deduct the filing fee from the amount owed the MP.
The balance of the loan amount which is GH₵25,000 is expected to be paid to the MP in installments.
Currently, the party executives are going through the process of vetting all seven flagbearer aspirants which is underway at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
If all the seven go through the vetting process successfully, a special delegates conference will be held on August 30 to prune to five the number of flagbearer aspirants.
Meanwhile, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NPP has slated October 18 for its Presidential Primaries which is expected to take place in all 275 constituencies simultaneously.
