The People’s National Convention is holding its delegates congress in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga to elect a flagbearer.
The party’s delegates will choose between three-time presidential candidate, Edward Mahama and first-timer, Prof. Yakubu Saaka.
Prof. Saaka is hoping to win the nod to lead the PNC in 2008 saying under Dr. Mahama’s three-time leadership, the fortunes of the party has consistently declined. Joy News correspondent, Godwin Narh covering the congress said there was a steady build up of euphoria in the two and around the congress venue.
Meanwhile the congress is going ahead without the PNC’s first vice chairman and MP for Zebilla, John Ndebugre.
Mr. Ndebugre is battling the party in court over the legality of the exercise.
Even though the courts have cleared the PNC to go ahead with the congress, the MP insists anybody who emerges today as flagbearer will not be recognized.
