The Volta Regional police command says a man who forced his way into the residence of the Volta Regional Minister, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi on Monday evening, intended to kill the minister.
The intruder, identified as Dan Agbale, 30, a native of Dekpor near Dzodze in the Ketu North District, was shot and killed by a police officer after he attacked and over-powered a security detail at the Minister’s residence.
According to the police, Agbale, after entering the house, insisted on seeing the minister, and forcefully sought access to the Minister’s main building.
The police then shot several times into the air to scare him from whatever he planned, however the man who had taken cover, soon emerged from his cover to attack the police municipal commander, Superintendent Theophilus Nartey in an attempt to disarm him and his colleagues.
The intruder managed to overpower the security men, however another policeman shot at Agbale and killed him instantly.
The Regional Minister was said to be absent from the house at the time of the incident.
A witness told Joy News correspondent, Agbeko Ben Coffie that the man who had talismans around him, had engaged one of the Minister’s drivers who lived at the Boys Quarters end of the residency, before running for the main residence.
