The Ghana Police Service have confirmed the start of procedures to investigate last Sunday's assault of Patrick Kyeremanteng in an FA Cup game.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yussif Mahmud of the Dormaa Ahenkro Divisional Police Command says the incident, which saw Istanbul FC's Henry Amenyo punch Kyeremanteng ws not being taken lightly.
“I was there when it happened and if you look at it from which ever angle, it borders on criminality - even though it happened during a football match. Especially when harm has been caused to a player even though he assaulted a referee," DSP Mahmud told Asempa FM on Wednesday.

The Disciplinary Committee of Ghana Football Association is also said to be monitoring the case.
"We have invited all parties involved to report Dormaa Ahenkro either Thursday or Friday to help with the investigations. And we would use what [evidence] is available to do it. It is not a tough case for only the Dormaa police, it is a tough case to Owusu Mensah and the GFA and to everyone."
