A 44 year old police officer with the Bufalo Unit in Tema has been arrested for fraud.
Corporal Victor Jeremiah Gaisie is alleged to have extorted monies from seven victims with the promise of recruiting them into the police service.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, acting Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service DSP Cephas Arthur confirmed to Myjoyonline.com.
According to DSP Cephas Authur, the suspect also forged letters and signature of the Director General of Human Resource and gave it to the victims for onward submission for training.
The suspect is still under investigation, Cephas Arthur stated, adding he is yet to be charged.
He said the public must be wary of such fraudsters, insisting that the police has not hired any recruiting agency or individuals to recruit on their behalf.
He added even when individuals have been recruited the police administration will continue to investigate them until it is satisfied that each individual got into the service on merit.
He also warned, serving personnel will not be shielded if they are found at the wrong side of the law.
