The Ghana Police Service has arrested Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, aka Baaluuse, a 33-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the killing of G/Const. Seth Oppong Damoah during an attack on a police barrier in Kariminga.
Police said the suspect was apprehended on February 17, 2026, around 12:30 a.m., at his hideout in Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga, following a joint intelligence-led operation involving the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID) and personnel from the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Division.
“The suspect and his accomplices, who are still at large, had been on our wanted list for carrying out a deadly attack on police officers,” a police statement said. “G/Const. Seth Oppong Damoah was shot dead, while G/Cpl. Nyanku Charles and G/Cpl. Abu Moro were fatally injured during the incident.”
Authorities say Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu is aligned with one of the feuding factions in the long-running Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has periodically erupted into violence between the Mamprusi and Kusaasi communities.
Police investigations, including a search of three mobile phones taken from the suspect, revealed that he allegedly participated actively in the protracted conflict, and further implicated him in multiple killings. Files recovered from the phones included videos of AK-47 assault rifles and pistols and an audio message requesting more arms and ammunition to support the Mamprusis in clashes with the Kusaasis.
The phones also showed Iddrisu as a member of a WhatsApp group called “Trusted Friends”, which used the image of Alhaji Seidu Abagri, a rival chief in the Bawku dispute, as its profile picture. Police noted that the group was mainly patronised by Mamprusi and Moshie community members.
Information gathered indicates that the suspect, along with an accomplice named Mark, who is still at large, was involved in the importation of weapons and ammunition to the Bawku area.
The police said Iddrisu had gone into hiding after the December 29, 202,5 attack on the Kariminga police barrier, but was eventually traced and arrested following coordinated intelligence efforts.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Iddrisu’s accomplices to come forward to help prevent further violence in the region.
