Ghana legend Mohammed Polo says John Mensah lacks the leadership qualities required to captain the Black Stars. The Lyon defender assumed leadership of the team following the international retirement of Stephen Appiah after the 2010 World Cup.The 29-year-old’s leadership qualities has howver been called into great question after it emerged some senior players of the team complained of disrespect by the young ones during the 2012 Nations Cup.And Polo believes the signals of a weak Black Stars captain is clearly manifested with the ensuing post tournament issues.“I don’t want to criticize him (Mensah) too much because every human being has his weaknesses,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.“Normally the captaincy is given to the oldest player in the team because you can’t give it to the younger ones but I don’t think he is on top of his job.“If you look at the problems that came out at the African Cup it tells you we need to replace him but it must be done with care.“It happened when I was at Hearts of Oak and and also at the national team level so to me John Mensah is not a leader.“He can be promoted to being a general captain so someone else can become the main captain.”Mensah emerged Ghana’s joint top scorer in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, scoring two goals despite suffering injury setbacks at the tournament which was eventually won by the Black Stars’ semi final conquerest Zambia.
