Government has vowed to deal with port-agencies who may be hindering the automation process at the ports.

This is coming in the wake of concerns by some importers and exporters who accuse some of the agencies of frustrating them in their activities at the ports.

This, according to them is unduly affecting the turn-around time and cost of transactions - despite implementation of the National Single Window System.

It is against this backdrop that government has advanced moves to implement the paperless system at the ports from next month.

Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Carlos Ahenkorah said, “We are urging those agencies to desist from activities that have the potential of creating a discomfort for importers and exporters.”

He said, “We as a government will work out the regulations to make the business of export and import an attractive sector of our economy.”

Mr. Ahenkorah said “government has been engaging the various agencies and we are very keen of a massive transformation in port operations”

He said, “I don’t see the reason why all agencies at the port should be doing almost the same thing differently when we are operating a single window system.”

He told JoyBusiness, all port agencies are required to act accordingly.                     

He also charged the Ghana Export Promotion Authority to ensure exporters of Non Traditional goods especially are able to export without challenges.
