The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has rolled out the Comprehensive Abortion Care Accountability programme to curb unsafe abortion.
Project Director, Owusu Banahene notes unsafe abortion is a leading cause of maternal mortality in Ghana.
Stigma and personal values have contributed immensely to unsafe abortion in the country.
At a workshop for media practitioners in Kumasi, he said the project will ensure more women especially girls have access to comprehensive abortion care.
“Fighting unsafe abortion is providing safe abortion. So we’re calling on women to go for safe and quality services,” Mr Banahene summarised.
The project which will take place in Ashanti, Central and Northern Regions will engage women and youth leaders as an advocate for change.
It will recruit 18 CSOs and empower them to engage with duty bearers on safe abortion service provision.
Key partners are Ghana Health Service, religious and traditional leaders.
The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Agency through the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education.
The project will end in December 2022.
