President Mills has ordered the release of Mr. John Kumah, an activist of the New Patriotic Party who was picked up Wednesday afternoon by the police for alleged offensive conduct.
According to Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who spoke to Asempa FM's Kwabena Bobie Ansah via phone, President Mills has instructed the release and a cessation of whatever process may have been initiated concerning the arrest because he was not interested in the issue.
John Kumah's arrest is suspected to have been informed by his alleged derogatory remarks about the President while contributing to a radio programme.
But Okudzeto said President Mills personally spoke to the Police Command to discontinue the case and release him.
The arrest has irked some leaders of the NPP, who threatened to march to the Police Headquarters to demand the release of their member.
