David Alechenu Mark, President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Sunday congratulated President John Atta Mills for winning the 2008 elections.
Senator Mark, who gave the commendation when he called on President Mills in Abuja, also praised Ghanaians for conducting peaceful elections.
He said political events in Ghana had great impact on the rest of the continent and prayed for courage, knowledge and wisdom for President Mills to steer the affairs of the nation.
He paid tribute to Ghana's leading role in Africa's independence and said the peaceful elections and transfer of power was a shining example for the rest of Africa.
President Mills, who is currently in the Nigerian capital to attend a mid-year summit of ECOWAS heads of state, reiterated the need for Ghana and Nigeria to help each other based on their common history, expertise and resources.
