Minority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has questioned the commitment of the presidential commission of inquiry into Ghana’s participation in the World Cup in Brazil.
"More than two weeks, that body has not been able to sit", the Minority Leader told Joy News. He said the delay only shows government has no intention to probe the matter.
Following a dismal show at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil last June, President Mahama through Constitutional Instrument 82 announced the commission with the powers of the high court to probe all activities surrounding Ghana’s participation at the World Cup including the management of the senior national team.
The three-man committee has an Appeals Court Judge Justice Senyo Dzamefe as chairman. The two others are ace sports broadcaster and lawyer Moses Foh Amoaning and Sports enthusiast Kofi Anokye Darko.
The announcement made on July 4, 2014, prompted fears within the sporting fraternity that government could court the unwanted wrath of FIFA for political interference.
"The setting up of the committee was meant to scuttle the environment to discuss the matter any directive will be construed as interference by FIFA. That is why the presidency has no business setting up a presidential commission", the Minority Leader rehashed the opposition's view.
