Asante Kotoko would have two games in hand by the time weekend's Glo Premier League matches are over on Sunday as they take part in continental football.
But for the rest of the fourteen sides who would be in action this weekend on match-day-18, it's business as usual as the race for the top gathers pace while the scramble to beat the drop intensifies.
The weekend's roster does not include Kotoko and bottom club, Real Tamale United.
Medeama's hopes of clinging onto the top will be tested at the Baba Yara Stadium where they clash with King Faisal, who are mired in the relegation scrap.
Berekum Chelsea have hauled themselves back into the hunt for the title as they sit in second. They will be eager to keep the chase when they welcome Liberty Professionals to the Golden City Park.
Elsewhere, Hearts of Oak's impressive start in the second round of the league will be on show at the Accra Sports Stadium when second from bottom, Berekum Arsenals come visiting.
New Edubiase, after their debut continental campaign failed to get past the first hurdle and their title defence of the FA Cup crushed, the league is their only remaining competition.
Edubiase, ten points off the top but with a game in hand will welcome Heart of Lions to the Gyamfi Park where they will be determined to turn around their fortunes.
At the Tema Stadium, Aduana Stars, with a game in hand could and four points from the summit could improve their points tally when they clash with Tema Youth.
AshantiGold will attempt to halt their gradual decline when they meet Ebusua Dwarfs at the Robert Mensah Stadium.
And to wrap up a busy weekend, the battle to escape the drop does not appear lost on Wa All Stars who have been impressive since the start of the second round.
The Blues after two consecutive victories will aim to add Amidaus Professionals to their list of victims when they clash at the Wa Park.
