A security analyst Emmanuel Sowatey says the recent discovery of a cache of arms and ammunition in suburb of Accra should not be taken lightly.
Security agencies last week discovered stripped and corroded parts of arms and explosive materials at a construction site at Akweteman in Accra.
The owner of the site is assisting the security agencies with investigations into the items suspected to have been buried in the late 70s.
Emmanuel Sowatey told Joy News investigations could unravel the mystery behind some incidents which occurred during the period.
He said if it is true that the arms and ammunition were hidden in the 70s’ during which period Ghana experienced military interventions in the body politic, their source should be traced to establish if they were to be used for any criminal activity or were actually linked to crimes at the time as well as who may have abetted those activities.
“In the 70’s I don’t know if that place was well developed, maybe it was a deep forest and people were hiding there for a particular reason so you have a whole range of issues that … are likely to have been linked to this arms,” he said
Emmanuel Sowatey also asked the security agencies to make their findings public, providing all possible reasons how the arms and ammunition found their way there as well as their source so as to put the general public at ease and to reinforce public trust in the security agencies.
