Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, a presidential aspirant of the Convention People's Party (CPP), on Monday congratulated the rank and file of the People's National Convention (PNC) for holding a successful congress.
He also commended the PNC for electing a flag bearer in the person of Dr Edward Mahama, "a seasoned and distinguished statesman."
Prof. Akosa said the choice of taking a "bold and historic decision to come back home and to merge into the fold of the only true and legitimate Nkrumaist organization" - the torch-bearer of African Liberation, however, "remains an outstanding gesture which the CPP under his administration would heartily welcome with open arms".
Dr Edward Nasigri Mahama was on Sunday elected as the presidential candidate of the PNC at the party's Delegates Conference held in Bolgatanga.
This is the fourth time the PNC has elected Dr Mahama as its flag bearer.
He polled 534 votes to beat the other contestant, Professor Yakubu Saaka, who got 400 votes.
