The Ashanti Regional Security Council has stopped all business operations at the Aboabo Station Lorry Terminal.

The terminal which has been at the centre of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) feud leading to severe injuries in the last three days has been cordoned off by police.

Some eight people sustained machete wounds on Thursday when supporters of the two parties clashed over who must control the Aboabo station lorry terminal in Kumasi.

The NPP supporters attacked and drove away operators of the terminal early this year, citing a similar takeover eight years ago but in a reprisal attack, several machete-wielding NDC youth today stormed the station to fight for space.

According to Joy News correspondent Erastus Asare Donkor, it has become a regular practice where supporters of the party which emerge victorious after every election demand control of the terminal and sack supporters of the losing party.

The victims were reported to have rushed to lodge a complaint with the police who came to the terminal to warn against any attacks.

The two sides clashed in the presence of armed police which resulted in one woman and seven men sustaining various degrees of injuries. The bloody scene had a man in his 30s having his wrist almost severed.

But the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah says his office will partner the security services to resolve issues of political takeovers in the Region. 

He pledges to help find an amicable solution to skirmishes at Tafo and that involving the Kumasi Technical Institute and the Police.

Simon Osei Mensah has pledged his commitment to deal with the Fulani menace and illegal mining which continues to plague the Region.

Meanwhile, traders within the Alabar vicinity are calling for the controversial lorry terminal to be converted for other use.

They say the tension there is disrupting business.
