President John Mills has some convincing to do when he meets with the majority side of parliament on Thursday. He has been up for criticisms for appointing Cletus Avoka and Rashid Pelpuo as Majority Leader and deputy respectively without the express knowledge and consultation of the majority caucus in parliamentary. Even though the two MPs have publicly confirmed their assignment, some members of the majority in Parliament have refused to accept the confirmation, accusing the president of not consulting them before making the decision. “Please we have not been informed of Hon Avoka been done anything. As at now we know our leadership to be Hon Babgin, John Tia and ET Mensah,” Alfred Abayatei MP for Sege told Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoe on Wednesday. He said the communication the president sent to the House on Wednesday was silent on who the new leadership is. Hon Alfred Abayatei said the caucus will meet with the president to discuss certain important issues with the president. Topmost on the agenda will be the decision on who becomes the majority leader, he said. “We decide who should lead us. The caucus has a say in who should lead us,” he stressed. Concerns have also been raised over the ministerial appointment handed to Alban Bagbin, John Tia and Enoch Tei Mensah, Majority leader, Deputy Majority Leader and the Majority Chief whip respectively with fears such appointment would create a vacuum in parliament. Whilst insisting that there are capable MPs in the house to take over, the Sege MP also conceded the experience and expertise from the three leaders will be sorely missed. Meanwhile, Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has played down the controversy that has characterized the supposed assignment of Cletus Avoka and Rashid Pelpuo. “He said the development is healthy for our democracy,” adding that the president will meet with the majority side tomorrow by which time there will be closure on this controversy Play the attached audio for excerpts of the interview with Hon Abayatei Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
