Former Speaker of Parliament, Ebenezer Sakyi-Hughes is reported to have returned all state property he took from his official residence when he left office.
Joy News quotes his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea as saying the items were returned Tuesday morning.
The Parliamentary Service Board Monday issued a statement faulting the ex-Speaker for acting illegally.
It said there was no policy requiring Mr. Sakyi-Hughes to take away the items.
The PSB also denied Mr. Sakyi-Hughes' claim that a precedence had been set based on which he acted.
It concluded he erred and gave him 10 days within which to return the items.
Information available to Joy News indicates staff at the former Speaker's residence have been at work carting the items back to the state.
Mr. Atta Akyea told Joy News' Evans Mensah he expects a closure to the public controversy over the issue with the return of the furnishings.
"If people don't want to make political capital out of the issue," he said, "the matter should end now."
According to him, calls for the prosecution of Mr Sakyi-Hughes are "juvenile".
He conceded the ex-Speaker may have exercised indiscretion but adds that is not enough for Mr Sakyi-Hughes to be virtually 'crucified.'
The Abuakwa South Member of Parliament described as unfair the manner in which the matter had been handled saying the image of his client was unjustifiably battered.
But anti-corruption campaigner, P.C. Appiah-Ofori disagrees. He said the conduct of the ex-Speaker was not only shameful but criminal.
He said he was drafting a letter to be presented to the Speaker of Parliament, Justice Bamford-Addo, to file a formal complaint with the police for Mr Sakyi-Hughes to be arrested and prosecuted.
"You don't have to caress big men when they commit crimes and punish small boys," Appiah-Ofori stated.
The Head of Public Affairs of Parliament, Mr. Jones Kugblenu confirmed the items were being received by the Marshals and Development Departments of Parliament.
He said an inventory of the items supplied the former speaker was used to check the items being returned to ensure everything is received.
The legal officer at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Mr Kojo Asante said there were still outstanding issues relating to the matter.
He asked what happens to the entitlements of Mr Sakyi-Hughes under Article 71 of the Constitution and recommended by the Chinery-Hesse Committee.
Mr Asante said the PSB must state clearly that beneficiaries under Article 71 who are serving in Parliament are taken care of in terms of their ex-gratia.
He emphasised there should not be any ambiguity over the matter.
