The race for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC's) parliamentary slots in the Northern region is heating up with District Chief Executives and incumbent Members of Parliament scrambling for nomination forms..
The party opened nominations Thursday with a number of key figures picking forms to contest.
Checks by Joy News in the region shows that many DCEs have picked up nomination forms to contest incumbent MPs as the party prepares for its November 7 parliamentary primaries.
Joy FM's Regional Correspondent, Hashmin Mohammed reports that in the Savelugu Constituency, the DCE, Abdulai Alhassan Red, has declared his intention to contest incumbent MP, Mary Boforo.
In Gushegu, Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini is contesting the incumbent MP Thomas Nassan.
East Mamprusi District Chief Executive, Adam Imoro is lucky; incumbent MP, Tia Sugri is stepping down at Gambaga/Nalerigu.
In the Yapei Kusawgu constituency, former DCE for Central Gonja, Sawlisu Biawuribe will be contesting Deputy Power Minister, John Jinapor.
Hashmin has also been informed that other DCEs are expected to pick up nomination forms from now until the closing date on September 10, 2015.
In Tamale North, Radio Gold’s Alhassan Suhuyini has picked up forms to contest seven others. Key amongst them is the former Council Chairman of UDS and the immediate past Director-General of CSIR Dr Abdulai Salifu.
Roads and Highways Minister Alhaji Inusah Fuseini who is the incumbent MP for Tamale Central has to beat competition from the Director of Feeder Roads, Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu if he is to represent the constituency on the NDC's ticket.
In Sagnerigu, the Northern Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency and NDC Regional Youth Organizer Alhaji Mohammed Abio and Former Minister of Gender and Social Protection Hajia Boya Bawa are up against Deputy Northern Regional Minister ABA Fuseini.
