A kind gesture after receiving food items for free made a single mother of five abandoned thoughts of taking her own life as she did not have food for her children during the yuletide. Sarah Owusu and her five children slept on an empty stomach, because she has been unable, was to sell water to raise money due to ill-health. It took a radio announcement of a scheduled sharing of food by a philanthropist to widows to aver what could potentially have been sad news for the nation. The radio announcement invited widows or their dependants to call the front desk of Luv FM and leave their details to qualify them for the package. Luv FM event for windows The next day, Mrs Owusu walked from Atonsu to the premises of Luv FM at Ayigya, a distance of about eight kilometres to pick up her hamper The single parent has been selling water on the streets to cater for five children since her husband passed on two years ago. For weeks, she has been unwell and unable to step out for the routine work, and thus exhausted the little she had accumulated so she had nothing for the children on Boxing Day. “It has been very hard providing for the family during this period. We sometimes sleep on an empty stomach. We bathed without soap. I started thinking about suicide after going through all this,” she disclosed. Another benefactor was Cecilia Aninwaa who is a physically challenged person who has been selling sweets on a school compound to keep her five children in school. Luv FM event for windows Her husband, an illegal miner popularly called ‘galamsayer’, died a year ago. “Taking care of five children after the death of my husband has been tough. I have no money to stock my shop after I paid the tuition fee for my wards with the money I trade with”, she added. She is one of 250 widows to receive Christmas hampers from a philanthropist, Emmanuel Aboagye, in partnership with Luv FM’s ‘The Diary’ and Nhyira FM. Each of the widows had pieces of wax prints and assorted items worth ¢200 each, in excitement, as expressed by other recipients. Sarah is so relieved she gave up her funny feeling of ending her life. She instead looks forward to recovering and get back to work and provide for her children. Luv FM event for windows “The gesture has brought some relief, we can smile once more. I pray I get well soon to return to hawking my water on the streets”, she prayed. Mr Aboagye, popularly known as Aboagye Contractor, spent over ¢50,000 to bring relief to the widows. He is satisfied his gesture has made such an impact. “Life is about the impact you make in the lives of others. The money spent shouldn’t be a worry. I pray next year I double or triple this,” he said.
