Four school children and a woman have been killed when an articulated truck ran over them as they crossed the road in Takoradi in the Western Region Thursday afternoon.
Three other children are in critical condition - two on admission at the Efia Nkwanta Hospital while the third is at the Kwesimintsim Polyclinic.
Joy News’ Kweku Owusu Peprah who visited the accident scene said the woman who died with the children was helping them to cross the road.
Three children from one family were victims, one of who (a boy) died with the two (girls) sustaining injuries. The children were reported to be heading home at about 4pm after closing from the Egyirba Basic School when they got killed.
The accident occurred at a zebrah crossing near the Nkrumah Circle on the Kwesimintsim road.
Peprah said a saloon car had stopped for the children to cross but the truck came from behind the saloon car.
He said the driver of the articulated truck is at large, fearing he would be lynched.
Personnel of the Fire Service had to wash off blood and body parts strewn at the accident scene.
