An actor and aspiring Member of Parliament has told Joy News a state vehicle saga he was embroiled in, will not affect his chances of annexing the Ayawaso West Wougon Parliamentary seat.
John Dumelo told Evans Mensah, host of PM Express, he did nothing wrong.
“I went to the servicing area and they said the car is for the state. I said ‘ok, take it.’ They took it [and] I went back for my money and that was the end of the story. It has never been an issue,” Mr. Dumelo said on Tuesday night.
The actor was in 2017 accused by government’s Assets Recovery Taskforce of refusing to hand over a state vehicle.
Mr. Dumelo, who has stepped up his political flirtation with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), faces stiff competition from Madam Afua Dogboe.
Ahead of the NDC’s Parliamentary Primaries scheduled for August 24, to decide who represents the party at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo has been speaking about how the party can return to power in 2020.
He says all members of the party must be involved in party activities especially at the grassroots level.
According to him, the party previously failed because it downplayed the role of the grassroots.
“In 2016, we didn’t really involve everybody, the grassroots, especially the branches. Everything was done without the branches forgetting that the branches are the ones that actually hold the party together,” he revealed.
Mr. Dumelo has committed to “involve everybody in the party, from the top to the bottom” should he win the mandate of the NDC in the August 24 primary.
