With 86 goals to his name in 2012, Lionel Messi is now “supernatural.” Just ask one of his teammates.
Messi scored twice more over the weekend in FC Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Real Betis in Spain’s La Liga. The goals gave
Messi 86 in the 2012 calendar year, an all-time record.
All 86 goals are available for your viewing pleasure in the video above. Consider it our Monday morning gift to you. Enjoy.
With so many goals to show, the video clocks in at more than 10 minutes. So we figured we would also toss in this link, which is basically a shorter demonstration of La Pulga’s genius. Eat your heart out, Kobe.
Now, back to the record.
German legend Gerd Müller set the record 40 years ago, and if recent form is any indication, the new record probably won’t last that long. At just 25, Messi hasn’t even reached his prime.
In fact, it’s almost like he’s supernatural, according to Barcelona defender Gerard Pique. From The Independent:
“Leo is supernatural,” he said. “He has no limits and we always have to remember everything that he’s given us. We have to enjoy him every single minute that we have him now.”
Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta echoed those sentiments, suggesting Messi’s true genius can only be appreciated “over time.”
“I’m sure we will really appreciate Leo’s records over time,” he said. “They happen so quickly that they seem to be just one more thing. It all seems very simple but it’s very difficult to describe it.”
