The Spokesperson for President Akufo-Addo’s legal team says their lawyer in court on Monday, exposed the "inconsistencies and outright falsehood peddled by the petitioner", John Mahama, and the NDC about the outcome of December 7 Presidential polls.
Speaking to the press after the court proceedings, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah stated that while cross-examining Mr Asiedu Nketia, Mr Akoto Ampaw proved that the NDC has no evidence to support their earlier claims of having won the Presidential elections.
"I believe it will be very surprising to the millions of NDC supporters across the country who were led on by this same team that they had numbers to prove that they had won."
"Now, here in court, when the Bench asked those questions, they say that ‘they did not come to court with any of those numbers. So they are still unable to put any numbers before the court despite all that they have said."
Mr Oppong Nkrumah added that the cross-examination also exposed claims in the petition that no party had the 50%+1 results during the elections.
“That is why you saw the venerable Akoto Ampaw, over and over again raise the numbers and asked the witness to do the computation."
"If you fry it, you bake, it, you turn it upside down you cook it, it is still 51%+ for the second respondent and about 47% for the petitioner,” he said.
He added that the cross-examination shows the "bad faith and prejudice" the NDC has against the Electoral Commission.
He stated that their petition and witness statements "is just a culmination of various attempts to undermine a very good job that has been done”.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the petitioner’s legal team said the purpose of the petition is to question the veracity of the results as declared by the EC, as such, there was no need to bring the NDC's collated results to court.
“They themselves have different contradicting figures, why do you need another one from us? And that is the point we are making, that the EC themselves what are their figures?” Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong asked.
From her standpoint, today's proceedings were favourable to their case, in view of the fact that the lawyer for President Akufo-Addo while cross-examining Mr Asiedu Nketiah admitted to some element of vote padding during the elections.
