The Chief of Weija, Ogboedada Nii Boafo Danyina has expressed frustrations at what he calls the failure of the Local Government Minister and the Parliamentary Select Committee on the sector to fulfill promises to his people.
The MPs and the Minister visited the chiefs some two months ago to plead on behalf of waste managers, Zoomlion and assured the chiefs they will expedite action on constructing drains in the community and a clinic for the residents.
They had earlier complained about the flow of liquid waste from the Saba Landfill into the community which they said was a threat to public health.
The landfill site is the major dumping ground for most of the refuse generated in Accra.
The chief gave Zoomlion 10 days to construct the drains in the community or be stopped from dumping refuse at the only landfill site.
But they rescinded the decision following the intervention by the MPs and government officials.
Nii Boafo Danyina told Joy News the minister and his emissaries have so far done nothing to address their concerns.
He said the sector minister and his colleague regional minister keep procrastinating any time they raise the issue.
But Local Government Minister, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo in a reaction said he is in talks with the Transport and Health Ministries to raise funds to address the concerns.
He said the chiefs have asked for the road leading to the landfill site and a clinic to be built for them- projects which are capital intensive.
He said he is assiduously working at it to ensure the realization of the project.
