The Ashaiman Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman who is alleged to have mastered burgling private homes in Ashaiman and its environs.
The suspect, Fati lbrahim, a Senior High School (SHS) leaver, was said to have broken into the bedroom of a certain Mabel Boamah, a trader at the Ashaiman Central Market. Luck however eluded her and she was caught red-handed by one of the tenants in the house, as she was busily ransacking properties of the trader.
Some of the tools retrieved from the suspect, who was said to be involved in a case pending before a court in Tema, included a screw driver, a bunch of keys, nails and knifes.
Speaking to Daily Guide, commander of the Ashaiman Police Station, Supt. Peter Kobina noted that on January 13,2011 at about 12:30pm, tenants of the house had left for their various workplaces and left behind one Prosper Mensah in the house.
The suspect, who was perhaps monitoring the movements of the said Prosper, immediately entered the house and managed to break the doors to the room after Prosper had left the house to buy food nearby.
The commander disclosed that when Prosper returned to the house, to his surprise, he noticed that the door to the main hall and the bedroom of Mabel were opened, and when he proceeded to see who was in the room, he spotted the suspect ransacking properties of the trader.
Prosper immediately raised an alarm and with the assistance of some residents of the area, the suspect was apprehended with her lady's handbag, which contained some tools believed to be used by the accused person for robbery operations. She was unable to state her purpose of entering the rooms when questioned by residents.
At the charge office of the Ashaiman Police Station, she was said to have admitted to the offence of unlawful entry, attempted stealing and being in possession of tools which aided her unlawful entry.
The suspect, as indicated by the commander, would be brought before court when investigations are concluded.
Supt. Kobina advised the general public to be cautious of suspicious characters, urging Ghanaians to volunteer information to the police should they notice such persons.
