Dr Yaw Baah, Head of Policy and Research of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), on Friday advised workers to change their attitude to work to support the government's effort to manage the country's economy well. Making the call at a meeting of the Sekondi-Takoradi District Council of Labour at Takoradi, Dr Baah said workers should recognize their role in the development of the economy and perform their duties creditably. He said the practice whereby some workers reported late for work and left the workplace early was not in the best interest of the country. Dr Baah said everyone including workers had to contribute to build the country, which did not belong to the government but belonged to all Ghanaians. He said the TUC was working with the government to improve the welfare of workers and to ensure that workers received fair and living salaries. Dr Baah asked workers to cooperate with the government to implement many of its policies, which were in their favour. He said the TUC had submitted memorandum to the government on policies that were not in the interest of workers. Dr Baah said the TUC fully supported the decision of the government to break away from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and expressed the hope that: "Ghana would stand on its feet from now on after half a century of independence". Dr Baah expressed concern about the opening up of the country for the importation of all kinds of goods" saying the importation of goods that could be produced in the country should cease.
