The Western Regional Coordinating Council on Friday inaugurated an Operational Team to deal with any influx of displaced persons into the country should the hostilities in La Cote d'Ivoire worsened.
The Regional Operation Team codenamed: "Operation Ouagbo 2010", will receive, screen, register, group, disperse and manage returnees and refugees from Ghana's western neighbour as well as seeing to the overall coordination of the operation.
Mr Paul Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, swearing in the members, charged them to respect all international protocols that relating to displaced persons.
He noted that to protect the national interest, a number of measures have been put in place since the beginning of the hostilities adding, "One of these measures is the formation of the team to handle anticipated influx".
Mr Aidoo noted that the serious security implications on the country due to the crisis in that country called for extra vigilance.
"There is the need to adhere to universally recognized standards of treatment applicable to all refugee emergencies and also ensure security in the designated refugee camps", he said
He noted that a Joint Operations Centre will also be set at the RCC to be coordinated by the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO).
