Over one thousand youth workers in the Ashanti Region say they have not been paid six months after they were recruited. The angry personnel who work under the National Youth Employment Programme were engaged in two batches in May and August last year after six weeks of training. Nhyira News' investigation reveals however that the first batch has received four out of eight months’ salary. The National Youth Employment Programme was introduced by the NPP administration to provide jobs for the country’s unemployed youth. Recruits are engaged in the three main modules of community protection, health service and agriculture. Some personnel who will not speak on record say officials have failed to respond to their concerns. Those who control traffic are said to have abandoned their post. Deputy National Coordinator of NYEP, Alhaji Alhassan Tabsoba, explains the salaries have been delayed due to ‘processing error.’ He says personnel will receive their money by the end of this month.
