Mr Fred O. Addae, Gomoa West District Coordinating Director, has urged the country’s youth to take advantage of government’s investment in human resource and acquire employable skills to enable them to become productive citizens.
He said good quality human resource was the greatest asset of every country and called on Ghanaians to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s idea of “investing in the people”.
Mr Addae was addressing a parade of school children, workers and voluntary organisations, to mark Ghana’s 52nd Independence Anniversary, under the theme “Unity and Peace, Pillars for National Development”, at Apam in the Central Region on Friday.
He noted that indiscipline is destroying the moral fibre of the society and urged the youth to avoid drug abuse, pre-marital sex, prostitution, alcoholism, hooliganism and take their studies seriously to enable them to pass their examinations.
Mr. Addae said the country needed healthy citizens for national development and appealed to Ghanaians to support the government’s “Clean Ghana” campaign, to improve upon sanitation.
Mr Francis Kojo Arthur, Member of Parliament (MP), for the area, reminded the people of the sacrifices of people who fought for Ghana’s independence and urged Ghanaians to unite to move the nation forward.
He advised: “We should not throw our hands into the air in despair as if our problems cannot be solved.”
Mrs Beatrice Lokko, District Director of Education, said the congregation from diverse political, religious and ethnic background indicated that there is peace and unity in the area.
Two students who excelled in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination, were awarded with cash prizes and schools that performed creditably in the march past received trophies.
