Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a private waste management company has embarked on an exercise to disinfect a total of 815 schools in the Upper West Region to make them safe against the coronavirus disease.
The disinfection of the schools, which comprises 702 public schools, 102 private schools, and 11 tertiary schools is in preparation for the return of the final year students to resume academic work.
Mr Emmanuel Volsuuri, the regional General Manager for the company, disclosed that a total of 850 sprayers would be deployed to carry out the exercise simultaneously across all the Districts and Municipalities of the region.
He said the company had already disinfected all Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the region and all market centers and other public places a few months ago.
“We are prepared to do a good job and we will do it within the stipulated time”, Mr Volsuuri assured while requesting the full support of Directors of Education and the Municipal and District Chief Executives as they had done during the past exercises.
Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister said the government had contracted Zoomlion Ghana Limited to carry out the exercise as part of measures being implemented to contain the spread of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
He commended the company for its dedication and commitment to duty and pledged their support for the company to deliver once again with the disinfection of schools’ exercise to make them safe for the students.
