A total of 10 District Chief Executives out of the 15 in the Volta region are among 43 people vying to be the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates in the 22 constituencies in the 2008 elections.
Mr Ken-Wood Nuworsu, Regional NPP Chairman told the GNA that Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) is unopposed for the Ho-West Constituency, Moses Mensah Assem, DCE North-Tongu, is being challenged by Mr Simpson Ezekiel Kuleke for the North-Tongu constituency while Kofi Mensah Demitia, DCE Krachi-West is being contested by Mr Osei-Nti Douglas for Krachi-West Constituency.
Joseph Booker Yaw Denteh, DCE for Nkwanta is vying for the Nkwanta-South constituency with Robertson Bernard Mensah, the head of Nkwanta District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
Mr Kofi Adjei Ntim, DCE Kadjebi District is vying for the Akan constituency with Eric Osei Bonsu, a Banker, while Miss Cate Aku Aglah, DCE South Tongu is being challenged for the South-Tongu constituency seat by Mawusi Nudekor Awitty, a Gender Advocate.
The Tongu area of the region has three constituencies, north, central and south.
John Peter Amewu, Hohoe DCE is being challenged by Marlon Praises Anipa a Health Worker while, Mrs Woyram Boakye-Danquah DCE, South-Dayi is in the race with Bernard Douse, a Consultant and Mr Liberto Pinto Bani for the South-Dayi constituency.
Anthony Kofi Abledu, DCE Akatsi District is vying for the Ave-Avenor constituency with Nicholas Coffie Negble, his immediate predecessor while Kofi Ahiabor, Keta DCE is going for the Anlo constituency with John Yao Golomeke.
Other high profile names on the lists include Mr Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, unopposed for Ketu-North.
It would be the third time Mr Dzamesi would stand on the NPP ticket for that constituency.
Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, the immediate past Volta Regional Minister, is vying for Biakoye with Festus Abotsina, an Educationist.
Ms Esther Ofori, Chief Executive of the Trade Fair Authority is contesting the North-Dayi constituency with Ken Anku, a Communications Consultant.
Mr Walter Glalah, an Educationist, Vincent Azumah, a Media Practitioner and Rights Advocate and Kudjoe Fianoo, a Sports Administrator are contesting the Ho-Central, Central-Tongu and Keta constituencies respectively, unopposed.
Mr Nuworsu said the list might not be conclusive as some constituencies were lobbying some individuals thought to be more marketable to join the race.
He said nominations for Nkwanta-North, the only constituency in the region with an NPP MP, are being kept on hold for now.
