About 1000 members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West region have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement signed by Ahmed Mumuni Bassa and Miss Ayishetu Kassim, Regional chairman and Women Organizer respectively and issued at Wa commended Mr. Ambrose Dery, the Regional Minister for carrying out numerous development projects.
It said the projects have uplifted the image of Wa as a regional capital and the region as a whole.
They have also commended the government for tarring the Bole-Bamboi road, which has for some years now been the worry of the people from the Upper West region.
The defectors said the tarring and expansion of roads in the Wa municipality, the provision of street lights and the implementation of the National Youth in Employment programme had helped in attracting many people who were hitherto not NPP members into their fold.
"Many were those who thought that because the NPP did not win in the region, they were not going to get their share of development, but upon assumption of office, they have implemented more than the NDC regime and we feel that it was a better alternative".
They also commended the regional minister for executing his duties devoid of political discrimination.
