A 115-year-old woman, jailed for contempt of court, was rushed to a hospital Wednesday, after she was released, Joy News has learnt.Madam Abena Fatima was charged for contempt after she refused to vacate a house she occupied in Koforidua following a court ruling which ordered her to do so.A Koforidua High Court, two weeks ago, charged Madam Fatima for contempt after she told the court she would not pack out of the house where she had lived for several decades because it belongs to her late father.Kwame Asumeng, son of the old woman, told Joy News his mother’s health has deteriorated since she was released from prison.Meanwhile human rights activist and Head of Legal Resource Center, Edward Amuzu, has described the old woman’s incarceration as a failure of the system.“It beats my imagination that all the parties involved – the lawyers involved, the judge – will all be frustrated to the point they would put this aged woman behind bars.“As far as I’m concerned, this is symptomatic of a system’s failure; that at the end of the day this woman is just a victim of our system’s failing and that form of a mechanical application of the laws,” he said.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
