2012 elections will be peaceful- Maulvi Wahab

The Ameer and Missionary- In-Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Dr. Maulvi Abdul Wahab Bin Adam has expressed optimism that despite the violence that characterised pockets of constituencies during the biometric voter registration exercise, this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections will be peaceful. Dr. Maulvi Wahab made the statement at the 50th Upper West Regional conference of the mission in Wa. The conference is been held on the theme, the role of Ahmadi Muslim in ensuring peaceful and transparent elections, before, during and after elections 2012. Opening the 2-day conference, he stated that participation in processes that brings governments into power was not only a civic right but also a religious duty of Muslims. He appealed to political parties, security agencies, the national peace council, the NCCE, the Electoral Commission and all those institutions that are constitutionally mandated to help organize and supervise elections to ensure that they do what is required of them to make this year’s polls free, fair, transparent and peaceful. ‘‘If through their actions and inactions, the country is plunged into chaos, posterity will not forgive them because God has endowed the country with resources that can make her one of the greatest in the world,’’ he cautioned. He appealed for tolerance mutual trust and respect despite the political, ethnic and religious diversity so that a united, peaceful and prosperous nation of which the future generations will be justifiably proud of, stressing that we are one people with a common destiny. The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Amin Amidu Sulemani who was the guest speaker lauded the Ahmadiyya mission for been actively engaged in socio-economic activities in addition to its spiritual upliftment. Ambassador Sulemani added that the mission has played a major role in the fields of education, health, agriculture by providing various infrastructure and administering quite a number of institutions in these areas. Turning to theme of the conference, the Upper West Regional Minister posited that the government led by Prof J.E.A Mills has demonstrated enough commitment towards peaceful and transparent elections and call on other stakeholders to join the government in ensuring peaceful and transparent elections come December 2012. ‘‘I have confidence in the Ghanaian that we are peaceful and I have no doubt we will not allow any person or group of persons to destabilize this country. We must therefore guide against needless rumour, idle gossip in the discharge of our duties, ‘’he added
