The 2015 McDan Open is underway with a packed slate of first-round affairs on Day 1.
Fans piling into Accra Sports Stadium Tennis Court on Tuesday will have a chance to see the top men's seed in action as George Darko will look to start his quest for a second straight McDan Open final appearance.
The opponent will be Benjamin Palm, a player Darko has beaten twice in his professional career.
Although the Aviation sensation is coming off two National Ranking titles, his best tennis has eluded him ever since re-claiming the world No. 1 spot.
Other games will be Ghana’s No.3 Wisdom Na-Adjrago facing Ahmed Quartey at 9 am, which will be followed by Bernard Dugbah vs Bona David.
Later in the day on center, Isaac Titriku will lock horns with Bernard Armah, followed by Ghana’s No.1 George Darko playing against Benjamin Palm.
On court 1, at 9am Raymond Hayford will battle it out with Emmanuel Plange, followed by Winneba based Gabriel Atteh will play Jonathan Quaye, lastly in the Men’s Singles Felix Hammond vs Charles Abuglila.
Day 1 results
On Center court on Monday morning: Kwabena Ofosu Bamfo who celebrated his birth day today crowed it in a grand style defeating Stephen Nortey 6-3,6-2. Still on center court Benjamin Fumi beats Nakwi Alisi in a game that ended 6-2,6-1.
On court 3: Bismark Downona lost to Daniel Anum Quartey in a 6-2,6-1 game. Charles Asomani secured a two straight set victory 6-3, 6-1 over 14 years old Reginald Okantey on court 1.
Early afternoon on center court: Defending Champion Jeff Bagerbaseh thrashed Isaac Bempo in a 6-1,6-0 game. Eric Tetteh Nartey outshined Patrick Tenkorang in 6-1, 6-2 on court 2.
Late in the afternoon, Sunyani based Francis Apkese defeated Andrews Appiah 6-3, 7-5 on court3. Ababio Benjamin rounded the day up with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Wale Babalola on the center court.
