The Ghana Statistical Service has, once more, extended the period for this year's Population and Housing Census.
According to Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Anim, the extension has become necessary to fully cover some areas in the country where enumerators could not fully reach everyone.
He explained that they have achieved their target for most parts of the country, but there are still places, particularly in the Greater Accra Region, where they were only able to capture 94% of the population.
"In all 16 regions, data collected exceeds three-quarters of the expected data, with all of them surpassing 90% except for Greater Accra.
"In view of the uncompromising goal of counting everyone, the data collection exercise has been extended in selected areas of the country," he said.
Some of the affected districts include Ga West, Ga North, Adentan Municipal, Kpone Katamanso, Ledzokuku, Tema West, Krowor, La Nkwantanang Madina, Ga East, Ayawaso West Municipal, Shai Osudoku, Awutu Senya East and Krowor Municipal.
The rest are Ningo Prampram, Gomoa East, Wassa Amenfi Central, Ashaiman, Tema Central, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Sunyani, Ga Central, Ga South, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Akwapim North, Ketu South and Akwapim South.
The 2021 Population and Housing Census was scheduled to end on June 28 but was first extended to July 18, then the latest announcement.
Prof Kobina Anim, however, did not state a new date when the exercise will end.
