Six suspects being held in connection with the cocaine bust at Heathrow in London have been refused bail again.
Lawyers of the suspects, including businessman, Alhaji Dawood, were hopeful that the court will grant the suspects bail.
In fact they had smiles on their faces, according to Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh Nuamah, when the presiding judge Francis Obiri started reading his ruling on their bail applications.
The Justice criticized the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for not being specific in their demand for more time for investigations.
The suspects and their lawyers, at this point, beamed with smiles, convinced that the court was going to grant them their freedom at least for the time being.
But after criticizing the security agencies for failing to give specifics, the judge grudgingly agreed with the prosecution.
Justice Francis Obiri said the international dimension the case has taken means the court has to be circumspect in dealing with it.
Nayele Ametefeh, was arrested at the Heathrow airport on November 10, 2014 for carrying 12/5kg of cocaine.
She had, with the assistance of some state and security officials, breached Ghana's aviation security prior to her arrest in UK.
She has since pleaded guilty to the charges of trafficking and illegally possessing cocaine and is praying for a quick sentence from the UK Crown Court.
Six suspects, who played various roles in what has become the Nayele cocaine scandal were later arrested in Ghana and are asking for bail but the judge would not listen to their pleas.
The suspects include two ladies Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Nuhu, Foreign Ministry officer, Abiel Ashitey Armah, Theophilus Kissi a foreign service officer, and Ahmed Abubakr, a protocol officer at the VIP lounge.
The case has been adjourned to December 22, 2014.
