Four persons out of seven who submitted nomination forms to contest the by-election in the Akatsi South constituency have been vetted at Ho and cleared for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries to be held in Akatsi on Saturday, February 5.
They are Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, a lawyer; Mr. Simon Mawutor Adzrah, national administrator of the NDC Heroes Fund; Prince Kasim Alubankudi, secretary to the UK/Ireland branch of the NDC; and Mr William Kpormatsi, constituency propaganda secretary for the NDC.
NDC regional secretary Simon Amegashie-Viglo, who made this known to Graphic Online Thursday, said that one female candidate had picked a nomination form but could not get to the vetting stage.
He said that prospective candidates who went through the vetting had to be registered voters in the constituency, of sound mind and without a criminal record.
He reported that 10 people, including two females, had so far collected forms in the Buem constituency pending vetting.
The Akatsi South constituency became vacant following the election of Edward Doe Adjaho as Speaker of Parliament while the Buem constituency became vacant after the death of the parliamentarian-elect, past Volta Regional Minister Henry Ford Kamel, who suddenly passed away on Christmas day last year.
