Ghana’s oldest football club Hearts of Oak have unveiled a new crest as they look to modernise the iconic badge.
The new badge is an evolution of the existing one paying close attention to honour the sacred elements of the club’s history including the oak tree, rainbow colours and the founding year 1911. The secondary badge adds the Latin phrase “Virtutem praestate” for select corporate uses.
“Hearts of Oak is an iconic brand in African football and we took great care to preserve heritage in the new marks,” said Chief Executive Officier Mark Noonan. “That said in order to thrive in this digital era, we needed an identity that was cleaner, more dynamic and a symbol of the club’s future ambitions.”
Hearts worked with UK-based teamup, a global leader in sports brand consulting and design, on the new identity.
Fred Popp, teamup Chief Executive Officer said “The new badge respects the past, with an eye to the future. We commend the club for driving us to achieve a rare case of simplicity, boldness, and directness not often seen in African football Clubs that will help expand the possibilities of how and where Hearts of Oak is presented.”
Hearts of Oak have been in existence since 11th November 1911. They will turn 107 this Sunday.
The Phobians have won three continental titles but have been dominant on the local scene winning Ghana Premier League 20 times and 10 FA Cups.
