A member of the New Patriotic Party has accused the National Peace Council of bias and double standards in its political dealings in recent times.A worried, Maame Afua Akoto, a member of the NPP’s National Communication Team told the Daily Guide newspaper on Friday that it is quite baffling that the Peace Council had suddenly remained silent on pertinent issues which threaten national security, peace and cohesion of this country, even though it had been quite vocal only recently. She expressed surprise at the deafening silence of the Peace Council on dangerous statements and acts emanating from the ranks of the ruling National Democratic congress.Maame Afua Akoto wondered if the members of the Peace Council had conveniently chosen to only comment on issues emanating from the NPP and turn a blind eye on those from the NDC because it was the ruling NDC that appointed its current members to the Council.Recounting various incidents, the NPP Communicator noted how quick the National Peace Council came out minutes after NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to reassure supporters of the NPP that it had won the December Polls. She however drew a sharp contrast to the loud silence by the Peace Council on very dangerous statements which have emanated from the ranks of the NDC including the comment by a leading member of the NDC, Mr. Kakra Essamuah that he would support a coup d’etat should the Supreme Court rule in favor of the NPP in the ongoing petition challenging the declaration of John Mahama as winner of the December Presidential Elections. She called on the council to be fair and impartial in the true quest for peace.
