The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been explaining its decision to realign some ministries and create new portfolios for its appointees in its latest batch of ministerial appointments.
Visually impaired Dr. Henry Seidu Daanaa is designated for the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs.
Former Agric Minister Kwesi Ahwoi is heading for the Interior Ministry, while outgoing Upper East regional Minister Mark Woyongo has been nominated as Defense Minister.
Among the list of 12 are six ministers without portfolios. Furthermore, E.T. Mensah, Alban Bagbin and Cletus Avoka, key players in the Mills-led government, will coordinate the implementation of priority projects including the construction of 200 senior high schools and new regional and international airports.
In an interview with Joy FM's Super Morning Show Senior Policy Advisor to the President Sulley Gariba outlined the factors considered by government in making the various choices.
He emphasised that all the nominees who have been appointed have distinguished themselves through previous experience in government, professional lives or achievements made for the society.
"And so the competence factor in terms of leadership, ability to organise was paramount in all of these [appointments,]” he said.
Mr. Gariba added that the president’s commitment to the implementation of his major campaign promises has necessitated his appointment of the three key personalities to coordinate the execution of the projects.
