The Ghana Medical Association is fretting over media reports suggesting that the threat by its members to embark on a nationwide industrial action is politically motivated.
The GMA over the weekend issued a two week ultimatum to the government to correct anomalies in their salaries, failure to which will compel them to embark on a nationwide strike.
The Al Hajj newspaper on Tuesday January 29, 2013, reported that recent surge in threat of strike actions, demonstrations, boycotts and calls for civil disobedience by members of the NPP and some pressure groups should not be considered as a mere rhetoric but an elaborate plan by the elephant party to make the country ungovernable.
The paper subsequently described reported threats of strike actions by the National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Ghana Medical Association, as part of the NPP’s plan to wage a relentless, sustained and ever-increasing psychological war, using such proxies against the Mahama administration.
Speaking on Pampaso on the Adom TV channel on Multi TV, however, Deputy General Secretary for the GMA, Dr. Justice Yankson denied that their action is being influenced by the opposition party.
Dr. Yankson condemned the publication stressing, the “GMA is not the arm of any of the political party in Ghana.”
“GMA will not tolerate such talks; Alhaji Bature should not sit in his bedroom and write anything he likes,” Dr. Yankson cautioned.
“We sounded the caution one clear month before the elections and at that time, we did not know which political party was going to win the election,” he noted.
