The Police Service has invited 26 persons who played lead roles in the organization of a rally to launch new pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance over the weekend at Taifa, in the Dome/Kwabenya constituency of Accra.
They are to report at the Madina District Police Command at 10 am, Thursday January 31, 2013.
LMVC is a multipartisan movement which has lent support to the case in the Supreme Court challenging the presidential election results and to push for radical reforms of the Electoral Commission.
Leading members include Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Sammy Awuku, Ernest Owusu Bempah of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Abu Ramadan of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) and Charles Owusu of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP).
The police are yet to explain the reason for the invitation but it is widely speculated that it could be linked to statements made by speakers who mounted the podium to address the supporters. Some of the statements have been described as potentially dangerous to the security of the nation.
Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the group, David Asante has told Myjoyonline.com, they suspect the invitation may be an attempt by the ruling government to use the security to silence them.
Mr. Asante however said even though they will honour the invitation, they will not be cowed by the police. He said they will assemble their supporters to join them to the station on Thursday.
