A former Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Abdallah Ahmed-Abdallah has alleged that some leaders of the ruling party lobbied for ministerial and deputy ministerial positions for their girlfriends in the Mills-led administration. According to him, such inexperienced people at the helm of affairs contributed to the difficulties faced by the NDC government under the late President John Mills. Alhaji Abdallah made the revelation to register his displeasure about the intense lobbying for various positions in the Mahama-led administration on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday. The President is yet to complete his appointments to the various ministerial positions and there are reports of intense lobbying from the rank and file of the party. Various lobbying groups have emerged and are putting pressure on the President to consider their ‘qualified’ candidates. But a worried Alhaji Abdallah on Ekosii Sen believes qualified candidates could be denied positions if the situation is allowed to persist. He intimated that the party apparatchiks who lobbied for their girlfriends, nephews and uncles under late John Mills are the same people around President Mahama at the Castle and fears the act may repeat itself. The former chairman maintained that the party elders should rather mentor the young ones to take up leadership position in the party rather than seeking their parochial interest. The vociferous NDC man took a swipe at the NDC General Secretary; Johnson Asiedu Nketia for his intransigent posture which he claims has created more problems for the party. He said the action and inaction of General Mosquito as he is popularly called has resulted in the ruling party losing some parliamentary seats in the 2012 general elections. The former BA chairman said the NDC leadership must focus on the strengthening the grassroot and making the party attractive to Ghanaians for a landslide victory in 2016. Alhaji Abdallah called on President Mahama to ignore the lobbyists and choose people who will help him to deliver on his campaign promises.
